FAQ ABOUT HEMP, CANNABIS, CANNABIDIOL (CBD), ETC...
Cannabis is a tall, leafy, flowering plant with stiff upright stems that originates from South and Central Asia, and grows wild in many parts of the world. It includes three varieties including Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis. Cannabis has been used for centuries by people for fiber (hemp), seeds, seed oils, medical treatment, recreation, and spiritual purposes.
Cannabidiol / CBD is derived from the cannabis plant and is produced from the resins extracted from the flowers of the plant that contain cannabinoids – more specifically, Cannabidiol. CBD cannot be produced, processed or pressed from seeds, and only a trace amount may be procured from the stems, stalks and leaves (only an “incidental” amount that is produced and falls from the flowers). Hemp and hemp derived products are naturally rich in CBD (Cannabidiol) and low in THC (<0.3%). Zen Hemp Health™ Full Spectrum, Total Plant Complex Hemp Extract Oil is a combination of highly concentrated, full spectrum, total plant complex hemp extract and 99.9% pure CBD Isolate infused into organically produced cold-pressed hemp seed oil. We do not sell “marijuana” or “medical marijuana.”
Cannabinoids are a class of diverse chemical compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors found in the human body that repress the release of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. More than 100 cannabinoids have been identified in the cannabis plant. The cannabinoids most abundant are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). Cannabinoids interact with specific receptors (CB1 and CB2) located within various parts of the central nervous system. The following are cannabinoids that have been researched the most: CBC (Cannabicromen): CBC is know to relieve pain (analgesic), as well as reduce inflammation. It has also been documented that it inhibits cell growth in tumors and cancer cells and promotes bone growth. CBD (Cannabidiol): CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid formed from CBG. Studies have shown that it has anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and anti-nausea effects. It can also lower high blood pressure, has pain killing properties, reduces muscle spasms and is a neuroprotective antioxidant. CBD is a THC antagonist, meaning it counteracts (reduces) the psychoactive effects of THC. CBG (Cannabigerol): CBG is the first cannabinoid produced in the cannabis plant, and is the biogenetic precursor to all other cannabinoids. It has shown a significant ability to counteract and prevent the formation of tumors. CBD (Cannabinol): CBD has approximately 10% of the psycho-activity of THC. It occurs when THC is exposed to heat or light, and is known to reduce spasms. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol): THC is the most well known cannabinoid and the most psychoactive. It has the ability to alter behavior, mood perception, and consciousness. It is what makes people feel “high.” THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin): THCV is another psychoactive cannabinoid. It may help with the treatment of diabetes and is being studied as an anti-obesity drug.
Endocannabinoids are naturally occurring chemicals produced within the body that have similar effects on the body than those of plant cannabinoids.
The Endocannabinoid System (endogenous cannabinoid system or ECS) is an intercellular messaging system that consists of a network of special receptors in all human cells that interact with cannabinoids produced naturally in the body (endocannabinoids), as well as cannabinoids from outside the body including plant-grown (phytocannabinoids) and synthetic. It has been identified as potentially the most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining human health. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissue, glands, and immune cells, and are involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory. In each tissue they are found, the endocannabinoids and their receptors perform differently, but share a common objective – to promote a state of homeostasis or internal stability and maintain a stable environment despite a changing external environment.
The difference is in how the plants are used and the amount of certain cannabinoids present in each. Both industrial hemp and “marijuana” are types of Cannabis Sativa L. With the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, the term “Hemp” now refers to Cannabis Sativa L containing less than 0.3% THC, while the term “marijuana” refers to Cannabis Sativa L containing greater than 0.3% THC. With the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, Cannabis Sativa L with less than 0.3% THC (aka “Hemp”) is legal in all 50 states.
We source our premium, US grown hemp from cultivars in Oregon, Kentucky and California.
Use all products in accordance with the recommended use on the product packaging and information. You should always consult your physician when beginning a new diet, exercise or supplementation program.
Use all products in accordance with the recommendations provided with the product. The serving size is going to vary depending on the individual and circumstances. A child weighing 45 lbs will have different needs than an adult male weighing 235 lbs. In one study we reviewed, 2mg of cannabidiol (CBD) had similar effects as 200mg of cannabidiol (CBD). Something else to consider is most studies and research being performed on CBD rich hemp extract is using an isolated form of synthetic cannabidiol. Our CBD rich hemp extract is plant based, and includes trace amounts of other cannabidoids. Studies have shown that CBD is more effective when used in conjunction with the other cannabinoids found naturally in hemp. Because research is still in its infancy, and serving sizes have not been identified, we recommend that you experiment. Hemp products are considered safe, so doing your own research and experimentation in order to determine what works best for you is ideal. It should be noted however that unlike most chemicals, your body will store cannabidiol over time. As such, after a few weeks of using CBD rich hemp extract oil, you may be able to reduce your serving amount and/or frequency and gain similar effects. So, for the first few days have a low serving to allow the body to acclimate, then for the next few weeks have a high serving size more frequently to “dose” the body and build up a store, then finally once your body has built up a store, you can incrementally reduce the serving size and frequency while still achieving the same results.
